RED CROSS SWIM KIDS
The Red Cross has revamped its learn-to-swim program from the "old" Aquaquest standards to the "new" Swim Kids standards. Each level has been designed to be adequately challenging and provide continuous swimmer development. Swimming strokes are built throughout the levels, using solid, proven progressions with a focus on drills and distance. Please use the chart below to determine the correct Red Cross Swim Kids level in which to register.

CHILDREN’S Aquatics Levels
Turtles (3-5 yrs.) Must be able to participate with instructor working towards independent floats, submersion & movement.
Guppies (3-5 yrs.) Must be able to consistently float on front and back on their own and be comfortable in the water - class will work on progressing to short swims. Prerequisite: Turtles
Dolphins (3-5 yrs.) Able to swim independently for short distances, working on taking a breath and are comfortable working on deep water activities and skills. Prerequisite: Guppies
Sharks (3-5 yrs.) Preparation for the Swim Kids program. Reviews all floating and propulsion skills. Good for kids that are not yet 6 but are ready for SK2. Prerequisite: Dolphins
SK 1 (Min. age 6) Beginners progressing to submersion to floats & glides on front and back. Swims up to 5m.
SK 2 (Min. age 6) Efficient in floats & glides with kick. Deep water activity. Swims up to 10m.
SK 3 (Min. age 6) Front & side glides. Intro to Front crawl. Surface support & dives. Swims up to 15m.
SK 4 (Min. age 6)
Front crawl technique. Intro to Back crawl. Dives and safe entries. Swims up to 25m.
SK 5 Efficient Front crawl. Back crawl technique. Whip kick & sculling. Swims up to 50m.
SK 6 Efficient Front & Back crawl. Intro to Elementary Backstroke. Swims up to 75m.
SK 7 Efficient Elementary Back stroke. Intro to Breast stroke. Eggbeater kick. Swims up to150m.
SK 8 Efficient in all strokes to date. Breast stroke technique. Intro to dolphin kick. Stride entry. Swims up to 300m
SK 9 Technique and drills for all strokes. Rescue breathing, shallow dives. Swims up to 400m
SK 10 Masters all strokes. Intro to Butterfly. Surface dives. Swims up to 500m.
Lifesaving School (Rookie, Ranger, Star) Introduction to rescue, emergency skills and first aid. Enter Rookie after SK 8, Ranger after SK 9 and Star after SK 10
Length of classes: Turtles to SK 3 - 30 minutes; SK 4 and higher - 45 minutes.

To register for swim lessons you should provide a copy of the last report card at the time of registration. Report cards help us to ensure that your child is registered in the appropriate level. If you do not have a current report card (within 8 months) you can have your child assessed prior to registration by the aquatic staff. JCC Aquatic Instructors are available for assessments during open swim times. A fee will be charged to transfer mis-registered children.
